Robert Ariail is an editorial cartoonist who is a two-time finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and has won numerous national and regional awards. The Carolina graduate is syndicated in more than 600 newspapers nationwide and was the first American to win the prestigious United Nations Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon Award in 2009. He has also won many other awards throughout his career:
- The National Headliner Award (1990)
- The National Society of Professional Journalists'
Sigma Delta Chi Award (1992)
- The Overseas Press Club's Thomas Nast Award (1997)
- The Society of Professional Journalists' Green
Eyeshade Award (an 11-state Southeastern regional
competition, 1991, 1997, 2001, 2004, 2007)
