History of Garnet Circle

Garnet Circle History

Garnet Circle has been a part of the “Student Alumni Association” since the fall of 1978.  At this time student leaders were recruited to become involved in a different side of the University (Alumni and Development). Garnet Circle started off with 15 members selected by faculty members. These members were given the privelege to travel statewide to alumni events. In addition, telecallers program was incorported within the Garnet Circle community.

"Dedicated to the ideals and progress of Carolina, SAA seeks to prove that nothing can be finer than a better Carolina for its past, present and future students. SAA's ... former members ... are continuing to help spread the Carolina word from coast to coast and country to country."

Today

“Garnet Circle Student Alumni Council” was established in 1990 as a student leadership group. To them has been intrusted the Ring Program. As a tradtion the Ring Program has been given to Garnet Circle annually.

From four students in the Rutledge Chapel to over 300 on the historic Horseshoe Garnet Circle Student Alumni Council is the leadership organization sponsored by the Carolina Alumni Association. The organization exists to foster relationships between the students of the University of South Carolina and its alumni.
