Local Alumni Club Pledges $50,000 to New Center
A local My Carolina Alumni Club has pledged $50,000 to the new Alumni Center project, details of which should be announced in the coming months.
Deepal Eliatamby, '88, '89, a current member of My Carolina's Board of Governors, previously pledged to give $10,000 toward a plaque for My Carolina Alumni Club of Richland and Lexington Counties to adorn a boardroom in the new Alumni Center. Deepal challenged members of the alumni club to come up with $40,000, the remainder of the fundraising needed to "name" the room, encouraging 40 members to donate $1,000 each.
This January, the goal was met, as the board received its 40th and final pledge. Board members Wayne Ledbetter, '79, and Donna Pullen, '89, have served as co-chairs for this project.
“We are excited to have the plaque filled so future generations of Gamecocks can enjoy the room and see their grandparents' names,” said Donna Pullen, former board president of My Carolina Alumni Club of Richland and Lexington Counties from 2005 to 2006. “The Richland-Lexington Alumni Board will now have a home, and we look forward to our first meeting in the new Center.”
“The board has been working very hard to meet this goal," said Elizabeth Muth, My Carolina director of alumni relations who serves as a staff liaison to the board. "Their commitment and enthusiasm for the new Alumni Center make this a special accomplishment.”
