Gathering with Carolina Alumni and Friends in the City
By Meredith A. Jones,
My Carolina director of membership marketing
Recently on a personal trip to New York with my family, I had the pleasure of joining My Carolina Club of New York City for the first game of this year's Super Regionals. I had never before been to a club event in any city, so when we found out that we were going to be in NYC for the first Super Regional game, we had to make sure we had a place to watch it.
Thankfully, we found out My Carolina Club of New York City was hosting a game-viewing party at a local establishment. When I called
The Mason Jar to clarify that they would indeed have the Carolina game playing, the contact there told me, “Of course!” and then went on to make sure that I had a table near a TV and the other Carolina fans.

s soon as our cab dropped my family and me off in front of the bar, we knew we were in for a good time. A seven-foot-tall Cocky was towering over the bar on the 2nd floor and a Marcus Lattimore jersey was hung on the wall. Game on!
Club President Nick Matthews greeted my family and me like we were old friends and told us all about what the club does for sporting events. He had a My Carolina Club of New York City t-shirt on and offered others for sale, to which my dad said, “We will take five, please.”

After our win, I got to talk to many of the Carolina alumni there. I quickly found out that some were not even from the city--they were from South Carolina and were visiting just like us, looking to have some fellowship with Carolina alumni!
We all walked away with a bit more Gamecock pride that night thanks to everyone at The Mason Jar and My Carolina Club of New York City because of their hospitality and Gamecock love.
Is it too early to ask my boss to fly up there in the fall to do research about what the club does for football games?
