To the Carolina Family:
It was just a short year ago that you and I began an important conversation about the tremendous impact the University of South Carolina is making at home, nationwide, and globally. Through a series of Web-based FOCUS reports, I’ve had the opportunity to share thoughts, stories and videos. I also provided hard facts and figures that all add up to a year of student, faculty, staff and alumni success.
Briefly, the report kicked off with an in-depth look at the university’s comprehensive strategic plan where we committed to seven focus areas: quality, leadership, innovation, diversity, access, global competitiveness and community engagement. All important, all top of our list.
I’m pleased to report that accomplishments often exceeded already high expectations. In the summary to follow you’ll see that our Honors College was ranked number one in the nation, our faculty received a record $227 million in sponsored research funding and construction began on the Darla Moore School of Business with the goal of creating the world’s largest net zero building. Of course we all cheered wildly for our football, baseball, soccer, women’s basketball, women’s golf and equestrian teams! What a year!
